The Mary Cave Cup was held August 10-12 Sycuan Resort in El Cajon,
California near San Diego. It was the fifth year of the event
and teams from several states participated. This event is equivalent
to the Boys' Hogan Cup Matches. The event is named for a wonderful
woman in her mid-90s who has been instrumental in women's golf
in the San Diego area. She established the first women's golf
team at San Diego State and is in the Golf Hall of Fame. Unfortunately,
Ms.Cave was unable to attend the tournament this year due to
her health. The girls enjoyed a barbecue on Firday where games were played to get to know one another. Saturday evening the girls enjoyed a banquet and then lots of competitive golf on the Willow Glen Course. The girls stayed at the Resort where they had access to golf facilities at night. One tradition is going to the range at night in pajamas. This year the tradition took them to the putting green in their pjs since the green was right outside their room |
