JGANC Interviews

Meet your JGANC members. We attempt to introduce you to members of all age groups. Next time you see them at a tournament, say hi to these friendly members.

Meet Jaewon Lee
from San Leandro

 JGANC
First of all, let me congratulate you on becoming a 2006 JGANC Junior Advisor. After being a member for five years, I'm sure you'll be a wonderful asset to the group. Tell me a bit about Jaewon.

  Jaewon
I'm a sophomore at College Preparatory School.

  JGANC
And in your five years, what JGANC tournament is your favorite?

 Jaewon
My favorite tournament is the East Bay Junior.

  JGANC
I interviewed another JGANC member, Howard Santos, and East Bay was his favorite too. That certainly says something about this fine tournament in Alameda.
I mentioned you becoming a Junior Advisor. What else is in store for you in 2006?

  Jaewon
My main goal for 2006 is to lower my scores. Year after year I would improve my swing, but my scores never reflected that. I want to make my scores more representative of my improved swing. Other than that, I hope to improve my game in general.

 JGANC
How did you get started playing golf?

 Jaewon
I started playing golf to follow in my father's footsteps. I joined a junior golf program at the Galbraith Golf Course, and I went on from there.

 JGANC
Galbraith had a wonderful junior program. They certainly started many juniors in golf. After this start and working all these years, what do you think is the best part of your golf game?

  Jaewon
I would have to say of all things, the best part of my golf game is my swing. My swing has improved a lot since I started playing in the JGANC and it is my strongest point in golf.

 JGANC
Well, the swing is the real foundation. With this great swing what has been your biggest golf accomplishment?

  Jaewon
I would say that finally breaking the 80's would be it. For a long time I had been trying to break 80 with little success. One day at my home course, I managed to do it. I hope someday to break the 70s and I'm working to achieve that goal.

  JGANC
I won't be surprised if that happens this season. You are really focused and determined. Keep working on it. We've heard lots about your golf, what about Jaewon outside of golf?

 Jaewon
I usually have to study a lot so I can't do much outside of school and golf. I do enjoy hanging out with friends or playing video games.

 JGANC
Sounds like a typical teenager. Thanks so much for taking the time to share with all of us. I'm sure our members are happy to know more about you.

Meet Greg Justice
from Saratoga

 JGANC
I met you for the first time last year when you won the Junior Advisors' Team Shoot Out with your buddy Kevin Smith. I'm glad to have the opportunity to interview you so our membership gets to know all about Greg Justice. How long have you been a JGANC member?

 Greg
I've been a member for 3 years.

 JGANC
Well then, you should be able to make a good suggestion for improvement in the JGANC.

Greg
I believe there should be cash prizes for the top ten finishers......just kidding.

 JGANC
Oh, I see we have a sense of humor too. Actually, wouldn't that be fun and quite an incentive to improve your game? Well, rules are rules so back to the trophies and plaques.
You recently turned 17 so you only have this season in the JGANC. What would you like to see happen to you during your last year?

 Greg
I would like to be in contention more often and win a few tournaments. I want to keep improving and have fun playing the game.

 JGANC
I see no reason you won't be up there this year. Have you beein playing golf long?

 Greg
When I was ten my dad took me to the range with him. It was a lot of fun.

 JGANC
And that's what golf should be.....fun. After all it is a game. Playing the JGANC should be lots of fun. What tournament has been your favorite?

 Greg
The Junior Advisors' Team Shoot Out is my favorite tournament because it's a fun format and it makes golf a team sport.

 JGANC
Could it be winning the event in 2005 has something to do with it too? You're right. It is a fun event and hope you come back with your partner to make it two in a row.
Greg, you are really an outstanding player. How often do you practice and do you have a special routine?

 Greg
During the summer I practice about 5 days a week. During basketball season, I'm lucky if I pick up a club once a week. However, I putt in my room every night before I go to bed.

 JGANC
I can just see you now....you in PJs and sinking putts avoiding the sand traps under the bed. This might be the reason for your magic. What else do you enoy doing beside golf?

 Greg
I like to play basketball. I'm 6' 6." I like to snowboard, eat food, work on my rap album, go to the gym and hang out with my friends.

 JGANC
Now here are some tidbits that would mean another interview. I'm curious about this rap album. But before I get carried away, tell me where this 6'6" plays basketball.

 Greg
I play for Archbishop Mitty High School where I'm a junior.

 JGANC
This is a great combination.....basketball and golf. Thanks for all the insight on Greg Justice. This has been fun. Good luck in 2006. We're sure this bedroom putting is going to pay off.

Meet Ashley Edwards
from Oakley

  JGANC
Hi Ashley, I'm so glad you agreed to be interviewed. You have been very active in our association and I'm sure you are recognized by many golfers at our various tournaments. How long have you been a member?

 Ashley
I've been a member for seven years.

  JGANC
I actually remember you when you were very young, when your older sister was playing the JGANC. Now you are 15 and a sophomore in school. What tournament is your favorite?

 Ashley
Castlewood is my favorite JGANC tournament.

  JGANC
I'm not surprised. Our Junior Advisors just gave them an Appreciation Award for their great event. You are such an outstanding golfer. You played on the Girls' North Team in 2005. This was your first JGANC team experience. Did you grow from that experience?

 Ashley
Yes, I loved playing in that. It taught me that I can't just be thinking about my game. You have to play together with your team. It also helps you not to give up because you are playing with a team.

  JGANC
You are so right. Team experiences completely make you look at your game differently. I wish we had lots more opportunities for team experience and more juniors had the chance to play in them. We are pretty lucky having three team events for boys and three team events for girls. What about 2006 for Ashley?

 Ashley
My goals for golf for 2006 are to be able to play in a few tournaments out of the state, especially the one in South Dakota. Outside of golf for this year, I would like to get my driver's license and to make the varsity swimming team.

  JGANC
Gee, I was hoping you were going to work for another JGANC team. Your goals are great ones, nevertheless. I was going to ask you about other sports, but you have already answered my question. I bet you do make the varsity team. Good luck on that one. Let's get back to golf again. How did it start for you?

 Ashley
My dad always played and he took me out a few time to play with him. I started getting into it.

  JGANC
You sure did and that's lucky for us. It's amazing how many dads started our members with their game. What else do you enjoy doing besides golf?

 Ashley
Outside of golf I enjoy swimming, relaxing with my friends and sitting with my family to watch movies together.

  JGANC
What a great family thing to do. At my house we would never agree on the movie to watch.....we have such different tastes. You'll have to share your family technique of keeping everyong satisfied. It's been great talking with you. Have a super 2006 and I hope I see you out there real soon.
