JGANC Interviews

Meet your JGANC members. We attempt to introduce you to members of all age groups. Next time you see them at a tournament, say hi to these friendly members.

Meet T.J. Masters
from Clovis

   JGANC
Summer is almost here, T.J. What is the plan? What is the goal?

T.J.
My goal for 2009 is to win at least 3 tournaments and break 70 in two consecutive rounds.

 JGANC
Wow, that is a big order. I assume you are doing lots of preparation. How often do you practice?

T.J.
Not as much as I should. I probably practice around 3 times a week.

 JGANC
You've been a JGANC member for four years. What has been the most memorable event that has happened to you in the JGANC?

T.J.
I remember topping my drive in my first JGANC tournament ever. It was in front of all my friends.

 JGANC
Well, everyone has had those moments. I bet if you win three events and shoot 70 for two rounds, that will replace the topping the ball incident. So far, which event is your favoriite?

T.J.
My favorite is our match play that used to be at Diablo Grande and now it is at Spring Creek.

 JGANC
College is actually right around the corner for you. What are you looking for in a college?

T.J.
I want to go to a college that is near home and has a great golf program.

 JGANC
Actually there are lots of programs near you that would be lucky to have you. Are you just a golf athlete?

T.J.
I love all sports, watching sports and of course, my social life.

 JGANC
Hmmmm....maybe I shouldn't ask about your social life. So if you are a man of all sports, how did you decide on golf?

T.J.
My father convinced me.

 JGANC
Dads have a way like that. Well you made a great choice and we look for big things to come for you. Thanks for the interview.

Meet Hannah O'Sullivan
from Cupertino

  JGANC
I am so glad to get to interview you. I have been watching you play in your age group and doing so well. You are certainly headed to be one of our stars. Tell me when did golf all start for you?

Hannah
My mom's friend has a daughter who played golf so my mom thought that I should give it a try.

 JGANC
My, you certainly took to it. You are only ten years old, but you are such an established young player. How often do you practice/

Hannah
I try to play everyday, but sometimes I'll have a lot of homework and have to stay home. The routine all depends on the time, but normally I will putt first, then chip, then finally head to the range.

  JGANC
You have your priorities right. School comes first and then golf. Since you have been so successful, what has been the most memorable to you?

Hannah
My most memorable moment would probably be the 2007 Tokay Junior when I had a playoff and if I got the lower score in it, I would receive my first JGANC coin. I just tried to stay relaxed and in the end, I won.

  JGANC
There's a message there......stay relaxed. You've been a JGANC member for three years. Have you met some JGANC buddies?

Hannah
Chloe Sales goes to the same golf coach as me and we play rounds with each other on several weekends. Another is Kelsey Kawaguchi. I also play a lot with her and we'll sometimes carpool. Both Chloe and Kelsey live pretty close to me which definitely improves friendships.

  JGANC
Do you have a favorite JGANC tournament?

Hannah
The Tokay Junior.

 JGANC
Well, I should have known. What about someone you look up to? Do you have a model on the LPGA tour?

Hannah
My model is Juli Inkster because she is still very active and she is a very nice and caring person.

   JGANC
Did you know she used to be a JGANCer? She is a great model. I know that would please her to hear it. Anything else about Hannah you would like to share?

Hannah
I love to swim and play basketball.

 JGANC
We now know Hannah O'Sullivan much better. I'm sure you'll be getting people saying hi to you at our tournaments now. Have a wonderful year Hannah and thanks.

Meet Sebastian Crampton
from Aptos

    JGANC
I've been looking forward to interviewing you, Seb. First tell us how you got started playing golf.

Seb
I was about eight years old and we were at Nevada Bob's in Monterey. My dad was trying out clubs and it was my first time holding a club. After that, all I wanted to do was golf.

  JGANC
Well, three cheers for Nevada Bob's! Of course, members are getting to know you for your fine play, but some know you as the guy who gets to ride in a cart for part of his round. Tell our members the reason and then I'll share with them our policy.

Seb
I have a problem with the bones in my heels. It is really painful. I do what my doctors tell me to do. If I don't I could be crippled for life. I should be better next year or so.

  JGANC
Since you are the first to use our physical handicap policy, I should explain to everyone. Most of you know the Casey Martin case. Since his case went to court, it was determined a physical handicap must be taken into consideration. We are following the USGA policy. If the physical handicap is documented by doctors, the JGANC will allow exceptions to our rules. This doesn't mean if you have a cold or even asthma that you would be considered for an exception. It must be something that you simply could not play golf unless an exception is granted. In your case, Seb, unless we allowed a cart for you for 9 holes of your 18, you could permanently damage yourself. Now we are looking at a year or two and your growth should take care of the problem. I know you don't want to ride in a cart, but it is good for our members to know why. You always have a driver that is not a family member or friend. The cart driver can't give you advice. The cart is labeled so our membership knows this is allowed. Now that is settled, let's go on with the interview to learn more about Seb. Have you set any goals for 2009?

Seb
I really want to be a JGANC All Star.

   JGANC
Wow, that is a big goal. Since All Stars are decided by points, I assume you are planning to play lots of tournaments. Good luck to you. What about the JGANC? What have you enjoyed the most in the JGANC?

Seb
The tournaments are well organized and it's good competition for me. I like all the kids my age.

 JGANC
Friends are so important in the JGANC. Tell me about some of the new friends you've met at JGANC events.

Seb
I met Chris Petefish at Grayson Woods last year. He is an amazing golfer. I've also met Owen Lin. He's a neat kid. I've met Jack Jaffe. He's really nice too.

  JGANC
You've been a member 2 years now. What about your favorite JGANC event?

Seb
My favorite tournament is the Sean Remen Memorial.

   JGANC
That's a great event run by LPGA's Juli Inkster's husband. It is named after a former JGANC player and is played on an absolutely beautiful country club. What about other activities you enjoy.....certainly there is more than golf.

Seb
Baseball has always been my first sport, but for me now, golf has taken its place. All I want to do is golf.

 JGANC
We sure feel happy about this. You have so much talent and we think big things are in store for you in the JGANC. Thanks for taking the time for this interview.
